Terminologies used in Stamp Collecting - Commemoratives

Commemoratives are stamps that are issued to honour a person or to indicate an event. For example the first landing on the moon by American astronauts provoked issue of a commemorative stamp to mark the reaching of a milestone in the history of astronomy.

Normally, the stamps will be multi-coloured and flashy. More than the stamps, the first day covers issued on such occasions will be more informative as they carry a variety of information and details about the event.

Other interesting commemorative was the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Further in Canada, the first day cover was issued in a town called ?Coronation? in Alberta!
